Jim M'Lady Obituary

James G. M'Lady, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 27, 2021 at 6:35 p.m.

He was born September 17, 1946 and raised in Cicero, IL. Leaving Cicero for training camp at Camp Pendleton in San Diego then heading out to Vietnam. Football was an important staple in Jim's life and he played it well. In High school, for the Marines and later in Canada. He went on being a lifelong fan and made it to the superbowl one last time in January 2020. Jim is a Marine Corps Veteran and proudly served in Vietnam. A lot of the lessons he learned in the Marines he carried throughout his life in family and business. He made substantial contributions to Oscar Mike and always looked for ways to continue helping anyone in the Marines. He made it back to Camp Pendleton for his 50th year anniversary. Jim was passionate about his dealership, a staple in Crystal Lake for 35 years. Starting out as an Oldsmobile dealership and moving on to Nissan and Isuzu. He was proudly number one in retail sales for Nissan for seven years running. The Cicero Boys club provided Jim opportunities as a teenager that helped prepare him for life in the marines and business. He showed his appreciation by giving yearly contributions and going back to see the Boys Club every year. He never forgot where he came from. Jim is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Barbara Ann (Babecky). They married in Joliet, IL on February 2, 1975. Jim is also survived by his sons, Scott and Marshall (Linnea Bettcher) M'Lady; sister-in-law, Melissa (Greg) Sobiesk (Pruitt); niece, McKenzie Sobiesk; nephew, Mason Sobiesk; sister-in-law, Donna Lee (Earl) Hettman (Babecky); nephews, Scott, Michael and Brett Hettman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sylvia (nee Pribyl) M'Lady and sister, Lynn, and his parents in law Richard and Loretta Pruitt. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 2-8 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rt. 176) Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Jim was instrumental in teaching me how to sell cars in a way we still use at my current dealership. Jim also gave me a shot at management to which I am a manager to this day. He was generous enough to take this Cubs fan to the first night game at Wrigley 8/8/88. Nothing but great memories working for him and knowing his family.
