Jim Potter, 78, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025. He was born on December 27, 1946, to Merrill and June (Mignon) Potter in Appleton, Wisconsin.
He was raised in Appleton and graduated from Appleton West High School in 1965. He attended Black River Falls college. He went to have a thriving career in the liquor business for 44 years and made many friends. Jim was an avid boatsman. He was part of the Appleton Yacht Club and went boating with friends and family any chance he got. He even met the love of his life Marie Ristow at the yacht club and have since spent 38 wonderful years together.
Jim is survived by Marie; sisters Terri (Don) Britten and Trudy Klade; Marie’s children and their families, Lori (Augie) Schimke, Ellen Mommaerts, Derick (Ally Arnott) Schimke, AJ Schimke, Wyatt Schimke, and Arlo; along with beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, stepmom Katie Potter, and brother-in-law Jerry Klade.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude’s or a charity of your choice.
There will be an informal memorial service at a later date.
