Jimmie Dickey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sanders Funeral Home - Lubbock on Jan. 18, 2026.
Jimmie David Dickey, a beloved husband, father, and friend, joyfully departed this life on January 16, 2026, at the age of 83 in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas. Born on July 31, 1942, Jimmie lived a remarkable life filled with love, community, and passion.

A proud graduate of Cooper High School in 1960, Jimmie went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force, showcasing his commitment to service and dedication. On December 21, 1965, he married his true love, Sandra Kay Stroud, and together they built a beautiful life over the years. Jimmie's legacy is enriched by his cherished children: Brian Dickey (Heidi) , Kim Dickey (Dusty Winkler), and Shane, along with his adored grandchildren: Taryn, Aidan, Christian, and Lucas Winkler and Haleigh Dickey, and sisters Polly Coats and Sandy Cox.

Jimmie was a well-respected figure in the local community. He owned and operated Jimmie Dickey House Moving, later expanding into the scrap metal business. His work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit were admired by many. A long-time member of Woodrow Baptist Church since 1954, he dedicated much of his time and energy as a Deacon, supporting his church family and spreading kindness throughout the community.

An avid drag racing enthusiast, Jimmie found joy in the thrill of the race and the camaraderie it fostered. His travels across Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana were filled with unforgettable moments spent with friends and fellow racing fans, all of whom he considered part of his extended family. Jimmie loved Texas Tech Basketball and held season tickets since the 80's.

Jimmie's warmth and generosity will be celebrated in a memorial service held at Woodrow Baptist Church on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 2:00 PM. All are invited to join in honoring a man who truly lived life to the fullest, brightening the lives of all who knew him.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren; sisters, and countless family and friends whose lives he touched.

Jimmie David Dickey's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. As we gather to celebrate his life, we hold on to the memories of his laughter, kindness, and unwavering spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Woodrow Baptist Church in his honor.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his loving parents, Cecil and Betty Dickey, granddaughter, Alexa Kay Barnett, and niece, Lisa Brumfield.
