Jimmie Ruth Dodson

Jimmie Ruth Dodson of Jasper, AL passed away on September 4, 2010. She is survived by her beloved husband Bill Dodson, stepchildren Rev. Dr. Malcolm Marler (Mary) and Marcy Marler. She is also survived by nieces Dr. Sue Hudson Duran (Tom), Janis Hudson, and Kathryn Venable; nephews Dr. James Hudson (Brenda), Joe Hudson, and Robert White (Marilyn); great nieces Heather Duran, Mindy Duran, Jesse Hudson, and Angela Hudson; great nephews Mike Duran, Jon Paul Hudson, Evan Hudson, Greg White (Tahna), and James Venable; great great nephew Hudson White; step-grandchildren Brendan Meyer and Kristin Meyer, and brother-in-law Oliver Dodson (Maxine). She is preceded in death by Garlin Mayes and Dr. Lewis Marler, her beloved husbands; parents James Grover Hudson and Queenie Brakefield; siblings Wilburn Hudson (Myrle), Paul Hudson (Ellen), Tena Garrett (Ray), Everette Hudson (Jackie); niece Paula White (Robert), and great nephew Warren White. Jimmie Ruth was a dedicated, loving elementary school teacher for over 30 years. She was a true advocate for children and taught penmanship and reading to hundreds of children Jasper, Montgomery, Gardendale, and Tarrant, AL. She was a devoted Christian and member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Jasper, AL where her father, James Grover Hudson served as pastor. Jimmie Ruth also worked alongside her husband, Lewis Marler, as a pastor’s wife in Montgomery, Gardendale, and Cordova, AL where she cooked and delivered food to the sick and elderly. She helped with weddings and was a gifted caregiver to many family, friends, and neighbors. She loved God with her whole heart, mind, and soul, and her neighbors as herself. Funeral service will be at New Prospect Baptist Church, 770 Highway 5, Jasper, AL on September 6th, 2010 at 11 a.m. with visitation for family and friends prior to the service at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral arrangements are coordinated by Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper, (205) 384-5533.
