Jimmie Goode Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Welch Funeral Home on Dec. 11, 2025.
Jimmie Goode, 71, of Hallsville, Texas officially made his way to heaven on December 10th, 2025, and we sincerely hope the Lord was warned in advance about his sense of humor. A legendary teller of stories that definitely weren't true, there is no doubt he's already spinning the angels a far better story than cancer, because he never let the truth get in the way of a good laugh.
Jimmie was born on March 3rd, 1954, in Longview, Texas to Tommie and Joe Bill Goode. He would go onto graduate from Longview High School in 1972 and then went to work at LeTourneau Inc. in 1973. He worked at LeTourneau for 42 years as a machinist, making life-long friends along the way, until his retirement, and then went to work at Alpine Target Golf Center until 2025. Jimmie married the love his life, Janna, on December 1st, 1978, and together they raised two beautiful children, Joshua and Jordan.
A lifelong storyteller, Jimmie lived his life the same way he told his stories: full of charm, plenty of color, and just enough character to keep everyone on their toes. He could bargain shop better than anyone you ever met, was always ready for a round of golf, and had a long-running relationship with scratch-off tickets that he was always sure were about to pay big. And in true Jimmie fashion, he never met a stranger. Spend five minutes with him, and you walked away with a new friend, a good laugh, and usually a story you weren't entirely convinced was true.
And because no tribute to Jimmie would be complete without at least one tall tale, his greatest accomplishment will forever be remembered as the time he set a state record and caught a 27.4 pound large-mouth bass at Lake O' the Pines! We might have invented that one, but it is absolutely the kind of story he would have claimed, improved, and retold at every family gathering from now to eternity.
Jimmie is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Janna Walker Goode; his children, Joshua and wife, Brianna Goode; daughter, Jordan Barnard; grandchildren, Ava Woolen, Zoey Goode, Kali Barnard, Cooper Barnard, Emmit Barnard, Easton Barnard; sister, Jacque Wilson and husband, Wylie; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and was preceded in death by his father, Tommie Goode; mother, Joe Bill Goode; and brother, Joe Lynn Fulps.
A visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, December 14th 2025, at Mulberry Springs Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with a Life Celebration funeral service to immediately follow at 2:00 pm.
Although we have to say goodbye for now, with faith in God's promise of eternal life, we are certain that a reunion awaits us. His laughter, his stories and the legacy of love he leaves behind will remain with us always.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:23

It´s with regret that I heard of my friend Jimmie´s passing. I´ve known him since the late 70s through work and play he was an unforgettable character. After knowing him all those years you would think I would have him figured out, but you never could. He would start one of his yarns he was famous for while all the time me telling him that´s not right. His reply would be "I might be lying ". This was all in good humor and fun. I´ll miss an occasional visit with him, I´ll miss his tall tales, but I´ll never forget him. Jimmie was one of my most unforgettable characters, we'll meet again.
