Jimmie Dolen McCann, a beloved member of the community and an esteemed veteran, passed away on November 2, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on June 23, 1943, in Alamance County, he was the son of the late Leroy Miles McCann and Clara O’dell McCann and was the husband to the late Nancy McCann.
Jimmie lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and an unwavering spirit of hospitality. His commitment to his country was exemplified during his time as a Green Beret in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War. His devotion to his country and fellow soldiers was a source of pride and a testament to his character.
An aviation enthusiast, Jimmie found joy in flying small planes. He also enjoyed boating on the lake and powerlifting, where he won numerous trophies. He also cherished the camaraderie found in being a member of a local breakfast club with his peers. Jimmie's kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Survivors include his sister, Nola McCann Morrison; his first wife, Barbara Rupert and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; parents, a brother, Leroy Maynard McCann and a sister, Audrey McCann Dickens.
A service to celebrate Jimmie's life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Shiloh Community Church by Rev. Mac McDowell with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 - 1:45 prior to the service at the church.
