Mr. Jimmie Lee McCrary, Sr. was born to the late Reverend John W. and Mrs. Odell Sledge McCrary, Sr. on February 25, 1947 in Madison County, Alabama. He departed this life, on November 25, 2023 at Huntsville Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Lucy McCaulley, Ruby Gilliam, and Irene Watkins, six brothers, Erskine Pope, Garnette Pope, John W. McCrary, Jr., David Lee Battle, Sr., Pastor Moses Pope, and Thomas E. Nance.
Jimmie confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined the St. Mark Primitive Baptist Church.
Jimmie graduated from Councill Training High School in 1966. He was employed by Barber Coleman and then later went to Dunlap Tire Corporation. He retired from Dunlap in 2004. Upon retirement, he decided to work at Crestwood Hospital part-time where he received Employee of the Year in 2008.
Jimmie married Edith Harris on October 6, 1996.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted and loving wife, Edith McCrary; four sons, Jimmie (Lori) McCrary, Jr. of Hazel Green, Alabama, Zachary McCrary, Derrick (Stormi) Harris of Huntsville, Alabama and Thaddeus (Deborah) Ford of Owens Crossroads, Alabama. One sister, Angela (Mack) Nance-Woods of Gurley, Alabama; grandchildren Natasha, Trevan, Courtney, Antoinette, Jacob, Sarah, Benjamin, Aja, Blake, Justin, Derrick and Charles. Four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2023, at the Saint Mark Baptist Church (6475 Moores Mill Road, Huntsville, AL 35811) with Elder Foster Watkins III as eulogist and Pastor Jeremiah Chester officiating. Interment will be in the Faith Memorial Park. Mr. McCrary will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
Public viewing will be held from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2023, and 8:30 until 9:00 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2023, at the Royal Funeral Home.
