Jimmie Davis West, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Halifax Co. on February 1, 1942, to the late Dewey Thomas West and Mattie Belle Adcock West, Jimmie spent his life in dedication to his family, faith, and passions.
Jimmie was a graduate of Bluestone High School and went on to build an admirable career as a surveyor, working extensively with Independent Contractors across the East Coast. He was known for his commitment to his work, his excellent reputation in the field, and the many entertaining stories he brought home from his time on the road.
Jimmie was blessed with a loving marriage to his high school sweetheart, Myrna Hudson West, to whom he was married for 67 wonderful years. Together, they created a warm and loving family, which included their late daughter, Jennifer West Kelly and her husband, David Kelly, and grandchildren Caroline, Colleen, and Clayton. Jimmie's family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment he spent with them.
A member of Jeffress Baptist Church, Jimmie's faith was an integral part of his life. He was also a member of the Bluestone Hunt Club, where he enjoyed spending time hunting with friends and fellow members.
Jimmie had a love for fishing and treasured countless memories made while fishing with his grandchildren, affectionately referred to as fishing with "Papa J" but never without a stop for Slurpees before hitting the water. An enthusiast of all things automotive, he enjoyed car shows, auctions, and often went by his CB handle "Shadetree" in related circles.
In addition to his parent's and daughter, Jimmie is preceded in death by his siblings Garnett T. West and Myrtle West Clark, Jimmie leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife, Myrna; son-in-law, David; grandchildren Caroline, Colleen, and Clayton; nieces, Shelby Morris, Melinda Rice; nephews, Brian Bowes, Donald Bowes; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins who will all miss him dearly.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jimmie's life at a memorial service on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville, Virginia, with visitation an hour prior to the service.
