Jimmy Allen Obituary

Published by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - Leander/Cedar Park on Feb. 16, 2015.
Jimmy "SAM" Allen of Abilene, was born April 14, 1953 in Amarillo, Texas and peacefully passed away February 16, 2015 at the age of 61. He was the son of the late Kirk and Ireta Allen of Amarillo and brother of Dave Allen of Liberty Hill, Texas. Sam resided at Disability Resources, Inc., in Abilene, Texas and was openly accepted by the "Folk" who became his closest friends and family. Sam is survived by his brother, Dave Allen and wife, Beverley, of Liberty Hill: their children; Kevin Newman and wife, Sherie, of Abilene; Bonnie Curtis and husband, Derackk, of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Angie Bare and husband, Ricardo, of Liberty Hill. Sam is also survived by Dave and Beverley's grandchildren: Garrett and Bonnie Smith and children Liberty and Harvin; Lyndsey Hryniszak and children Lizzie and Wyleigh; Dillynn Newman; Noah and Jules Curtis; and Sophia and Soren Bare. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Disability Resources, Inc. for their years of love and care for Sam. Sam flourished in many ways while at DRI and found a place of acceptance, respect, fulfillment and love. Sam enjoyed being a part of the "Bell Peppers" handbell choir at DRI and participating in the vocational training program on the DRI campus. Sam's best gift was his love of music, especially from the 50's and 60's. He knew the lyrics and sang any song recorded during that time as welll as naming the artist who recorded the song. He enjoyed the old hymns. He loved to eat. He loved his cousins and looked forward to the annual reunion with them. Even with Sam's special needs, his mind was one that everyone depended on to remember times, places and names from the past. Sam was a gentle giant by nature, strong in stature most of his life and faithful to all he knew and who accepted him. A memorial service for Sam will be held at Disability Resources, Inc., on Tuesday, February 24th, at 2:00pm. Join us as we celebrate Sam's life on earth; his new found life in heaven and thank our Lord for the privilege of knowing him. The family requests that any contributions in Sam's memory be made to Disability Resources, Inc., 3602 N. Clack, Abilene, Texas 79601.
