Publish in a newspaper
Funeral mass will be 11:00am, Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.
Visitation will be 5-7:00pm, with a scripture service at 7:00pm, Monday November 25th at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown with full military honors.
Jimmy Ray Benson was born January 2, 1957 to Arnold S. and Ollie M. (Nevins) Benson in Clear Lake, South Dakota. He grew up on the farm in the Goodwin area. He joined the United States Navy and served 20 years.
Jimmy was united in marriage with Jayne Brandriet on June 20, 1981 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. The couple was blessed with four children.
He was a heavy equipment operator for a road construction company, Foothills Contracting, which was based out of Webster, South Dakota.
Jimmy loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Jimmy was very patriotic and showed great pride for his country. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, cooking, and watching his favorite westerns.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Jayne Benson of Watertown; his children, Lynnette Stormo, Kimberly Benson, Lisa (Paul) McIntire and Greg (Jen) Benson all of Watertown; his siblings, Allen Benson of Watertown, Lonnie Milton of Brandt, LeRoy Benson of Watertown, Larry Benson of Goodwin, Emmie (Ron) Sherman of Goodwin and Tom Benson of Sioux Falls; and 12 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Jason Stormo.

Jimmy is my dad's cousin but we are close in age. When we were kids, we would often leave our house in Chicago to visit our relatives in South Dakota during summer break. We had so much fun running and playing all over his parent's farm. I remember being chased by a bull and Jimmy holding apart the barbed wire so I could quickly climb through. You'll be dearly missed.
