Jimmy Cox Obituary
Jimmy Ray Cox, a cherished resident of Randolph County, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, at the age of 70, at Randolph Hospice House. Born on August 14, 1955, in Randolph County, Jimmy lived a life marked by dedication to his community and enjoyment of the outdoors.
Jimmy devoted many years of his life serving as a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Department. His commitment to law enforcement was steadfast, and he took pride in his role, building strong bonds with colleagues and members of the community.
An enthusiast of outdoor activities, Jimmy found joy in the thrill of skiing and hunting, the calm of fishing and boating, and the camaraderie of playing golf and cards with friends. His passion extended to classic cars, which brought him great pleasure. Moreover, Jimmy was a proud gun enthusiast, appreciating the craftsmanship and history behind them.
His commitment to community and fellowship was evident through his membership in the Asheboro Masonic Lodge #699 AF & AM, where he was a respected member. He served on the board of directors of Rainbows for Girls- a charity organization sponsored by the Freemasons and Order of the Eastern Star. He also served as a Shriner, having personally sponsored 10 children during his time with the organization. He enjoyed worship services at Foster Street Wesleyan Church in Asheboro, where he participated in online services after his health began to fail.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jesse Leon and Doris Cockerham Cox, and his faithful pet dog, Rusty.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Cavender Cox, who was the light of his life and his steadfast companion. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Cox of Asheboro; his sister, Patricia Walker, and her husband Rick, of Asheboro; sisters-in-law, Constance York and husband Rocky of Farmer, and LaDale Allred of Cedar Falls; brother-in-law, William Cavender and wife Sharon of Cedar Falls; along with his cherished Yorkie, China.
A memorial visitation to celebrate and remember the life of Jimmy Ray Cox will be held at 10am on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Foster Street Wesleyan Church in Asheboro, 214 Foster St. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 11am. Reverend Charles Moses and pastor Jr. Baker will officiate the service, offering words of comfort and tribute.
Jimmy's presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, service, and love for life will remain in the hearts of those he touched. Midstate Cremation & Funeral Service in Asheboro is honored to assist the family of Mr. Jimmy Ray Cox.
