Jimmy Davila Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 7, 2024.
(Santiago) Jimmy Davila, a native West Texan, was born on May 30, 1960, in Lubbock, TX to Cosme and Mary Davila. He has been a loyal and connected member in the community for over six decades.
He attended LISD schools including Dunbar High School, playing football and track. After high school, he entered into a long career of working with his hands. He was a skilled man, serving in several occupations such as a car mechanic, HVAC repair, truck driver and hot-shot deliverer. He could diagnose your car over the phone and helped just about everyone he met.
Jimmy had many passions and hobbies. A car enthusiast, he loved American made muscle cars and racing. He loved to play softball, being a member of both local and traveling teams for several decades. He loved to fish – he has spent many hours in the playas, ponds, and lakes in this area. He was an outdoorsman – he loved to hunt deer and hogs. He had an old, country sensibility about him – he loved the simplicity and ruggedness of the Old West – you could catch him watching The Rifleman while cleaning a gun or sharpening a knife by hand. And, he was the most loyal Dallas Cowboys fan (even when they disappointed him, which was often.)
He fell in love with his wife Derenda early – they were high school sweethearts who married in 1979- and spent 32 loving and adventurous years before her passing in 2012. He is survived by his children, Holli Davila, Charlie Davila with his wife Lily, and his Duck, who was a bonus son to him.
He loved many who went before him including his parents Cosme and Mary, his siblings, Edwina Rodriguez, Jesse Davila, and Daniel Davila, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He leaves a legacy of many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews from both the Davila and Segura sides of the family. And, he leaves loving friends who would visit with him for meals and chats.
Jimmy was known for his stories and wisdom. He was always ready to tell you one of his tales, lay out of his classic Jimmy-isms and he could have anyone in stitches within minutes of meeting him. To know Jimmy was to love him – you'd never find a more faithful friend, a more helpful hand, or a more joyful instigator with which to spend time.
He left earth surrounded by family and was welcomed peacefully into heaven by his late wife Derenda on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. He was 64.
Services will be live streamed at www.southcrestlive.tv.
