Jimmy Dean Hartman, affectionately known as Jim, was born on April 6, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri. He passed away on October 12, 2025, in Blue Springs, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and unconditional love.

Jim's career was dedicated to his time as a machinist, where he proudly contributed his skills to very reputable employers, including Armco, Solar Tool and Die, and ATK (Lake City). If something was broken, it wouldn't take long for Jim to tackle the challenge and fix it. Alongside his machinist career, Jim also embraced his entrepreneurial spirit by owning a Gem and Mineral business, sharing his passion with others. Outside of his professional endeavors, Jim enjoyed using his skilled hands to create wooden toys that brought joy to countless children over the years, channeling his love and creativity into his projects. He also impressively built narrow-gauge trains for others to ride on. His inventive nature led him to craft live cannons for Fourth of July celebrations and to bring any of his daughter's imaginative ideas to life.

A man of remarkable character, Jim was an unconditionally kind and loving father and grandfather. His grandchildren fondly referred to him as Bubba, a name that reflected the warmth and love he gave them. Jim’s personality was bright and extroverted; he never met a stranger. He had a genuine curiosity about other people's lives, often engaging with them in conversations that allowed them to share their stories. His compassion was evident in his deep empathy; he would readily tear up at witnessing anyone in pain, embodying the true essence of a caregiver, especially as he lovingly took care of his wife until her last breath.

Jim married the love of his life, Pat, on April 1st, 1967. Together, they raised two children and built a truly beautiful life. Jim was not only a devoted family man but also a cherished neighbor and friend. His commitment to community was demonstrated through his years of service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he attended for many years. Most recently, he found a spiritual home at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri, where he volunteered his time each week to clean the church, creating friendships that enriched his life immensely.

Jim's passing is preceded by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 58 remarkable years, Patricia Hartman; his parents, Arnold Hartman and Grace Critcher; his brother, Don Hartman, and sister in-law Fern Deatherage; and his in-laws, George and Betty Sayers. His legacy of love lives on through his children, Ed (Theresa) Hartman and Mary (Scott)Damewood; his grandchildren, Kalib (Becca) Drake, Zachary Hartman, Claire (João Potro’) Damewood, Jacob Hartman, Noah Damewood, Ashley Carlson, Danielle Carlson, Leah Carlson, and Jules Carlson; his great grandchildren, Declan and Kylie Drake; and his nephews, sister in-laws, and their families.

A memorial visitation will be held on October 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Mark Catholic Church, located at 3736 S Lee's Summit Rd, Independence, Missouri, 64055. A Mass will follow on October 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM, concluding with a Graveside Service at Mt. Washington Cemetery at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mark Catholic Church.
