Jimmy Lavon (Jake) Walker, 79, passed away on his birthday, January 23, 2025. He was born in 1946 to Lavon Walker and Doris (Griffin) (Walker) Harrod, in Beebe, Arkansas. Jake loved horse races, hunting, fishing, saving money and spending time with his children and grandbabies. He was a jokester and loved playing pranks on his family and friends.
Jake loved driving around in his truck listening to Elvis with his wife. You could always hear him saying “I’m going up the road” and he would never tell you where he was going, or when he would be back. He loved sitting on his porch listening to the rain and the birds and was content.
He loved his community of Apple Hill, Sixteenth Section, and Baugh Chapel. He served on the Apple Hill Cemetery Committee. Jake had a heart of gold and donated to many charities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather T. J. Harrod; his siblings, Barbara Chamblee, Janice Frazier, and Dennis Walker; and one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Long Pichon.
Jake is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Darlene Walker; his daughter, Stephanie (Corey) Long; his son Jason (Barbie) Walker; grandchildren, Allen (Cherie) Holland, Madison (Hayden) Chavers, Jake (Lindie) Walker, and Shelbi Long; seven great grandchildren, Hunter, Hallie, Charlee, Tanner, Cam, Whitt, and Ellis; and a host of nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
The family would like to thank Arkansas Hospice, and the staff at UAMS H-6 for treating Jake like a celebrity.
