Jimmy L. Martin, age 81, of Fishhook, Il. died Wednesday evening (September 10, 2025) at Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, Il.
He was born September 13, 1943 in Quincy, Il. son of the late Lozelle and Alice Stinson Martin.
He married Marilyn Smith on February 14, 1965 in Fishhook, Il. and she survives.
Also surviving are children, Brenda Barton (Kevin) of Liberty, Il., and Linda Kirby (Alan) of Vienna, Il.; three grandchildren, Makenzie Spinks (Nathan) of Vienna, Il., Ehren Kirby (Brandi) of Herrin, Il. and Andrew Kirby (Jordan) of Anna, Il.; six great-grandchildren, Andersyn, Adley, Jersey, Easton, Collins, and Raya; siblings, Janice White (John) of Baylis, Il. and Gary Martin (Janet) of Mt. Sterling, Il.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a baby brother, Duane.
Jimmy was a 1961 graduate of Perry High School in Perry, Il. Jimmy was a lifelong farmer farming in Fishhook area. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Other hobbies included bowling on a league and watching the St Louis Cardinals play baseball. Jimmy was an Army veteran serving in the Army National Guard in Vietnam. Growing up he was a member of 4-H and was a pitcher on the 4-H softball team. He was a past board member of Perry Schools, as well as Soil and Water Conservation Board, Woodland Cemetery Board and Fairmount Township Board.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday (September 16, 2025) at Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Il. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by Griggsville American Legion Post. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Woodland Cemetery or Woodland Church and sent to Airsman-Hires Chapel, Box 513 Pittsfield, Il. 62363. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.
