Jimmy Prentice Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 5, 2011.
Jimmy was born on September 15, 1946, son of Clemuel and Frances Prentice in Dallas, TX, and passed away on September 5, 2011 in Tool, TX. Jimmy graduated from W.W. Samuel High School in Pleasant Grove in 1965. The following September, he married Jeri Hudgens, his high school sweetheart and soul mate. Together they spent many happy years raising their two children. He worked and served his country 4 years as an active reservist in the United States Navy. Jimmy was employed with Dallas Power and Light, later named, TXU Electric where he retired as a Distribution Supervisor after 38 years of dedicated and loyal service. He continued contributing his invaluable knowledge working with contracting companies, Standard Electric, Mas-Tec, and McCurley Enterprises, in related fields of electrical distribution on a part time basis. In 1977, along with his in-laws, RW "Tag" and Doris Hudgens, the family built two homes and relocated in the Cedar Creek Lake Area. New friendships were sparked as well as rekindling old ones with those who relocated into the same area. Jimmy commuted to Dallas every day but managed to stay an active part of his family's lives by attending most sporting and school events as well as church and community activities. He had the stamina of the energizer bunny. Jimmy truly embodied goodness with his kind nature, loving heart, and a fighting spirit. He thrived on the love for his family and friends. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was known for so many great things. If you could smell the mesquite wood burning, smoked brisket was destined to be on the dinner table soon. It was a true work of art how he could make food taste so delicious. His garden could have been featured in magazines; his constant attention was evident in the quality of the harvest. He devoted numerous hours to his cattle, which he referred to as "his girls". He made sure that everyone and everything was well fed. Generosity was one of his finest characteristics, but he would definitely search for the best deals when making a purchase. Jimmy was always ready for conversation with friends or strangers. You could usually find him at Circle S catching up on the local news. He was the ultimate husband, dad, Pawpaw, and friend. He has been an inspiration and role model to many people. He was not one who wanted to be in the spotlight; his family may never know the numerous people he has influenced during his journey on earth. Jimmy leaves a void in all our hearts and will be missed dearly. Proceeded in death by his father, C.P. Prentice. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeri, Tool; mother Frances Prentice, Frisco; sister Carol and Bob Spaulding, Frisco; children Jeff and Cheryl Prentice, Frisco; Lisa and Charles Colman, Jr, Trinidad; grandchildren, Danielle, Lauren, Wil, Kaitlyn, and Carsen; many nieces and nephews who he truly loved. In memory of Jimmy, memorials may be made to : The General Scholarship Fund Henderson County Livestock Show, PO Box 1372, Athens, TX 75751 or to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund , 522 W. Main St, Gun Barrel City, TX 75156.
