Nana's Obituary
Jo-Anne Spurr passed peacefully alongside family members in Baldwinville, MA on December 19th, 2024 at the age of 91.
Born in Boston on the twenty-ninth of December 1932 to Mae Cardinal and Joseph Cardinal of Boston. She married Eugene G. Spurr of Boston on the warm day of June Thirteenth, 1953.
Jo-Anne is survived by her six children, Joseph Spurr of Ashburnham, Kenneth Spurr of Fitchburg, Eugene Spurr of Punta Gorda, Richard Spurr of Port St. Lucie, Julia Varno of Roseville, Nancy Manuel of Shirley as well as a dozen grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and grand-dogs) to whom she loved dearly.
Jo-Anne is remembered for her wit and sassiness, delicate nature, and lively personality. She was a dedicated member of the Acton community and proudly served as a librarian at the West-Acton Citizens' Library for many years.
Jo-Anne's memory will be carried on through the generations, sharing stories about how she always had apples and cinnamon as well as molasses flower cookies to eat. Teaching the girls how to blush their noses, or teaching the boys to keep their elbows off the table. Knowing there was always room for dessert, (because "dessert goes to the heart, not the stomach"), and goodbyes were met with kisses blown and a waving hand. Blessed with many dogs and grand-dogs over the years as well, to know Jo-Anne, was to know her love of dogs big and small.
Jo-Anne could often be found alongside her husband, Eugene on various cruises, basking in the sun as she has recorded in several travel journals. As a devoted mother of six, Jo-Anne's love for travel took her worldwide. Traveling to places such as New Mexico, Minnesota, Russia, and Florida to visit her children who shared the love of travel she possessed.
Jo-Anne lived her life to the fullest and made those around her feel loved. She has proven herself to be a devoted wife, hard-working mother, loving grandmother, and above all, a wonderful friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visiting hours will be held on January 10th from 4-7 pm at Acton Funeral Home. A graveside service will commence on January 11th with a procession service beginning at 9 am at Acton Funeral Home. There will be a reception to follow located at the Maynard Elks.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to donate to the West-Acton Citizen's Library.
