Hobby was one of the high school coaches I always looked up to. But being 5´ 10" it was natural for me to look up to Hobby. His coaching of our center Bill Bullard was the most significant coaching factor that made our team the first to win a sectional championship for MVHS. The players thought it was funny when Hobby told Bullard he was not allowed to dribble the ball or when he ask me to get in front of Bob Ford and let him run over me after North shot free throws. That may have worked if the referees would have called a foul after I was repeatedly run over. Man was I sore after that game.
At the 50th anniversary of the championship Hobby and Sherry came to Mt Vernon and all in attendance loved the stories they shared with us. A few months later he came to Florida and I had the opportunity to ride in a golf cart with Hobby for 18 holes. I can´t but in words how great that time with him was.
Hobby was with me in a moment of my life that was one of the most memorable for me. I can´t speak for all of the players on the 67-68 MVHS sectional championship basketball team, but for me he was a fantastic coach and a great man to share a part of my life with. He touched many lives during his life and he will be deeply missed.

I babysat for Mr and Mrs Gibbs when they lived on Ford Road. He was also my teacher and he was always so kind and interested in what was going on in our lives. Rest in peace. Linda Dremstedt Mand.
