Jo Hyche Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Memorial Park, and Crematory on Feb. 16, 2026.
Jo Ann Abston Hyche, age 85, passed away peacefully the evening of February 12, 2026. Born on February 4, 1941, Jo Ann was a lifelong resident of Brookwood, Alabama. She loved this community and its people and did her best to express that however she could. Jo Ann was known for her feisty personality and often brought that energy wherever she went.

Most important to Jo Ann was her family. She both loved and protected them fiercely. Anything she could do to help or support them, she would do without hesitation. She was truly the family matriarch, and her absence will be felt greatly by the entire family.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alton Hyche: her children, Keith Hyche (Kim) and Jon Hyche (Stacy); her grandchildren, Cole, Zach, Phillip, Jon Taylor, Ryder and Joseph; great grandchildren, Fitz, Mary Elle, Madalyn, Silas, and Wells.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Johnnie Mae Abston; her brother, Phillip; and her daughter, Krystal.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Funeral Home on Keenes Mill Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of West Alabama or Wounded Warriors.

Jo Ann will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all who helped care for Jo Ann in these last several months, especially to Ruby and Inga.
