Clyde, Jo Ann Manning, 82, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, at her daughter’s home.  A native of Ohio, Jo Ann was the daughter of the late Paul & Evelyn Johnson Thyreen.  She was also preceded in death by her loving husband Rodney Manning who passed in 2001.  She also is preceded in death by two sisters.

Jo Ann taught music and was a substitute teacher at both Swain and Macon County School systems for more than 13 years.  She was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church where she was the organist for many years.  

Both Rodney and Jo Ann were house parents at Broyhill Childrens Home, and they continued that love at home by fostering at their own home.  

Jo Ann loved music, kids, animals, and her family was her life. 

Jo Ann is survived by her two daughters, Tara Gibson (Chris) and Tami Manning; two sons, Troy Manning (Peggy) and Todd Manning (Cyndi); eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.  

Memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Hazelwood Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Lolley and Reverend Mike Odom officiating.  Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the church prior to services. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hazelwood Baptist Church, 265 Hazelwood Avenue, Waynesville, NC  28786 or Four Seasons Hospice, 581 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC  28731.

The care of Ms. Manning has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville
