Scott Douglas Alexander, passed away on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026. Scott was a Haywood County native, born to Barbara Kay (Scott) Alexander and Douglas Bruce Alexander, who preceded him in death.
In his formative years he grew up clogging with Red Ivester's Carolina Cloggers and Blue Ridge Mountain Cloggers. In 1973, he traveled to England to participate in a U.S-U.K. Cultural exchange program, an experience that helped inspire Haywood County's own Folkmoot. In 1976, he proudly represented his community at the White House Bicentennial Celebration. While attending Pisgah High School, he was active in FCA, served as the football team manager and trained the girls' basketball team. He was part of a College Fraternity, Theta Chi at UNC Asheville and was the Women's basketball manager at UNCA. He graduated from UNC Asheville in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in social service.
Professionally, he dedicated his whole life to long-term healthcare working as an administrator of nursing homes across six different states: Missouri, South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Illinois and North Carolina. He exemplified what it meant to take care of people's loved ones and made each building a place where people wanted to take their loved ones.
Scott had a true green thumb and loved gardening and cooking. He made a special effort to foster close relationships with his family, always keeping in touch and making time for those he loved. His younger cousins, Harper and Cline, held a special place in his heart, Harper especially loved his pasta salad and Cline enjoyed his squash casserole. He found great joy in hobbies such as boating at Lake Chatuge, home projects, taking residents on outings, wreath making, antiquing, drying herbs he grew himself and gifting them to others.
Left to cherish Scott's memory are his son, Hunter Alexander, and daughter-in-law, Chloe; and their daughter, Hudsyn, whom he was lovingly called by the name "Hootie." He is also survived by his daughter, Emily Roberts, and her husband, Wesley. He leaves behind his brother, Shawn Alexander, and sister-in-law, Teresa Alexander; his uncle Billy Scott; aunts Patsy Best, Nancy Price and Sharon Henderson. He also leaves several cherished nieces, a nephew, cousins and a host of dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and spirit.
Scott entered the hospital at the end of September with a case of shingles and experienced multiple complications, including strokes and internal bleeding leaving him in a state of insurmountable frailty. He passed comfortably at Autumn Care in Waynesville.
A receiving of friends will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026 at High Street Baptist Church in Canton, N.C. with a service to follow.
Throughout his medical journey, he required significant blood transfusions, receiving more than 20 units of blood. These selfless donations gave our family precious time together. In lieu of flowers, consider donating blood or making a financial gift to the
American Red Cross in his honor.
