Roger Wells Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford / Ray Funeral Home on Feb. 9, 2026.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Roger "Scooter" Dale Wells on February 3, 2026. Roger was a familiar face in the town of Canton, where he leaves behind a legacy of a good and kind heart and friendliness to everyone he encountered each and every day.

Born on June 19, 1955, in Haywood County, he has made Canton his home all his life. He attended Pisgah High School, where Roger made many friendships that have remained all throughout the years, built on laughter, loyalty, and his steady presence.

Roger worked faithfully at Dixon's Little Boy in Canton, where he was always willing to help out and do whatever was asked of him. Also, it was a place where Roger could see and visit with friends from his hometown. He found joy in the simple things in life. He loved motorcycles, fishing, and collecting Superman memorabilia, and Roger also had a fondness for birds of all kinds and spending time outdoors.

We shall never forget Roger and his gentle spirit and the fact that he never failed to speak, wave, or acknowledge those he saw each day. His absence will be deeply felt in our community, let us never forget how Roger's kind heart touched all of us throughout his 70 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Thomas Wells and Betty Shipman Wells Powell; his brothers, Michael Wells and Paul Wells, and a sister, Ada Green.

Surviving are his sisters, Lou Wells and Carolyn Weaver; also, many other extended family members and a multitude of friends.

No formal funeral services are planned at this time.

Memorials may be made in Roger's memory to Crawford / Ray Funeral Home, 7 North Main Street, to assist the family with funeral expenses.
