Doug Sorrells Obituary
He was a 1969 graduate of Pisgah High School and an honored member of the US Air Force, where he served his country in the Vietnam War. After returning home, Doug began working at Champion International, later becoming Evergreen Packaging for 37 years.
Doug was an avid hiker and had hiked many miles along the Appalachian Trail. He always had a garden and enjoyed working alongside Ronald Chambers in his cantaloupe field. He was also a member of the Baptist Men's Group at Riverside Baptist Church, where he helped build ramps in the community. Doug was a fan of the Pisgah Bears and could often be seen with his family at ballgames. He was also a huge fan of the Carolina Tarheels.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Aaron Wells.
Doug leaves behind his devoted wife of 46 years, Sandra Sorrells; their three children, Shaun (Dee) Sorrells, Autumn (Doug) Woods, and Todd (Kasey) Sorrells; five grandsons, Taylor Sorrells, Canyon, Colton, Jacob Rathbone & Weston Messer; five granddaughters, Kayla, Tannon, Addison, Baylee Sorrells, and Emersyn Messer; and one great-grandson, Colter Sorrells; 2 brothers, Gary (Janey) and Tommy (Donna) Sorrells, sister, Annette (John) McElrath, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service with military honors will be held 2:00PM at Riverside Baptist Church on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Pastor Steve Frazier and Pastor Mike Odom will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00PM prior to the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be grandsons, Taylor Sorrells, Canyon, Colton, and Jacob Rathbone, nephews, Joey and Logan Sorrells. Honorary pallbearers will be grandson, Weston Messer, and great nephews, Riley Lanning and Hayden Sorrells.
