Jo Ellen Winkler Obituary

Jo Ellen Winkler, 79, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, October 31, 2025 at Franciscan Health.

Born June 2, 1946 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of David Thomas and Laura (Halliburton)

Thomas. She married Jerry W. Winkler on June 9, 1968 and he survives.

Other survivors include a son Adam Winkler (Stacy) of Greenwood, daughter Lia Comp (Keith) of

Wentzville, Missouri; a sister Lynn Shaw of Fortville; 5 grandchildren- Haleigh, Eli, Reid, Hudson &

Hayden; and 2 great grandchildren- Avery & Jack. She was preceded in death by her parents, and

a sister Madelon Ward.

Mrs. Winkler had lived in this area for 11 years, after moving from Rush County. She graduated from

Mt. Vernon High School in 1964, and graduated from Ball State University with a Master's Degree in

Speech & Hearing Pathology. She had been a speech & hearing therapist for Fayette County, Rush

County, & Shelby County schools, retiring after 40 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Auburn

Christian Church.

Jo Ellen loved her students and had many teacher friends. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed

attending their sporting events. She also loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Memorial services will be 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral

Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Patrick Glasser officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday morning

from 10:00 am until the time of the service, at the funeral home.
