Joan Andrejco Obituary
Of Braddock, age 85, died on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Shadyside Hospital.
Beloved wife of the late Joseph Paul Andrejco with whom she shared a beautiful marriage since their wedding day on May 10, 1958.
Loving mama of Joe (Georgia) Andrejco of West Mifflin, Chad (Anna) Andrejco of North Braddock, Sean Andrejco of East Pittsburgh, Jaime Andrejco of McKeesport and Serge Andrejco of Braddock.
Treasured grandmother of Dustin Andrejco Jones, Marcus Andrejco, Summer Hvasta, William Hvasta, Lexi McWhite and Chavis McWhite.
Dear sister of the late Dolores (Ted) Thompson.
Joan is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Joan distinguished herself academically as the valedictorian of her high school class. Her professional journey began at Braddock Hospital, where her skills as a transcriptionist were invaluable. Later, she continued to serve her community through her work at Mercy Hospital.
Joan's interests and joys were as vibrant as the flowers she cherished. She found tranquility in her garden, where her sons Joe and Serge would help her in planting a colorful array of blooms. She shared a passion for travel with her late husband, Joe. Together, they explored various destinations from the sun-kissed beaches of New Jersey to the bustling excitement of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Maine held a special place in their hearts for its serene beauty. An avid cat lover, Joan's affection for her feline companions was a testament to her gentle and caring nature. Her enthusiasm for life was perhaps most evident in her love for casinos. The thrill of playing the Buffalo machine and her joyful exclamations of "Buffalo!" will remain a cherished memory for all who accompanied her on these spirited outings.
There will be a private gathering amongst family.
Arrangements made by the Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Avenue at Cable Avenue, East Pittsburgh (412-824-8800).

I remember not really knowing who Aunt Jo-an was when she would visit my mother's home with kids in tow. I never really heard my mom speak of having a sister. I do remember wondering why she named Serge as she did. Silly me thought it was because she worked in the medical field and I thought it was out of respect for surgeons. As years went by, I feel that my mother, Dolores, and Joan developed a closer bond. I only wish I could have joined them on one or two of those casino trips...It must run in the family to have the love of playing the slots. To all of my cousins, second cousins and more, she is at peace now, watching us all from that special place that wonderful, caring people leave this plane of existence for. Though I didn't know her well, as I don't know many of my extended family, because I knew of her, and met her a couple times, she was in my thoughts. May you all find a way to overcome the grief of your loss and appreciate the woman, mother, friend, aunt, grandmother, etc., that you were LUCKY enough to have in your life and be able to call family.

I loved my Aunt Joanne. She was always there for me. She sat with me while my mother,Dolly,Her sister was dying. She not only provided financial support when my daughter, Amy died at age 28, but she also helped immensely at the wake. Yes, indeed she loved the casinos and the beach. Her and Uncle Joe took me to Wildwood, NJ and Atlantic City when I was about 7 years old. I got to see the ocean for the first time. We biked the boardwalk together and the entertainment center performances. I will miss her greatly.

I loved my Aunt Joanne. She sat with me while my mother, her sister, Dolly, was dying. She was there for me when my daughter, Amy died at age 28. She not only provided financial assistance with Amy's funeral, as I was unemployed at the time, but she did a lot of work serving food at the wake. I still make a lot of her recipes, especially Ukrainian Nut Horns at Christmas. Aunt Joanne was a great cook. Yes, she enjoyed the casinos and beaches. Her and Uncle Joe took me to Wildwood, NJ and Atlantic City when I was about 7 years old to see the ocean for the first time and bike on the boardwalk. I will miss her greatly.
