Joan M. Arrowsmith

Joan M. Arrowsmith, 78, of South Bend, passed away Thursday October 15, 2015 in her home. She was born on January 8, 1937, in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Bert A. and Mary Louise (Allen) Gordon. She graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1954. On May 19, 1957, as Joan M. Gordon, she married Bill Arrowsmith, who survives. Also surviving are her daughters, Lynn (Greg) Hess and Lori Arrowsmith, both of South Bend, IN; her sons, Mark Arrowsmith of Mishawaka, IN and Jon (Jody) Arrowsmith of Granger, IN; nine grandchildren, Jonathan Arrowsmith, Christopher (Felicia) Arrowsmith, Mark Arrowsmith, Stephanie (Larry) Dudeck, Bryan Ashton, Kelsi (Levi) Zicafoose, Sarah Hess, Rachel Hess and Hannah Hess; eight great-grandchildren, Mark William Arrowsmith, Brenden Arrowsmith, Wesley Zicafoose, Brielle Arrowsmith, Noel Hess, Oliver Hess, Marley Zicafoose, Cohen Arrowsmith, and Lilly Dudeck; her twin sister, Mary Jo Campbell of Middlebury, IN; and a brother, Charles Gordon of Elkhart, IN. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert (Kathy) Arrowsmith; and her sister-in-law Ruth Carol Arrowsmith. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Herschel Beach Arrowsmith, Jr. Joan worked for Dr. Edward A. Davis for 17 years, Memorial Hospital for 13 years, and then at Christopher J. Banks for 5 years. Joan was a member of Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Her constant companion and source of comfort was her 4-legged daughter Madison. She enjoyed playing bridge. Before her health deteriorated, she loved nothing better than to entertain in her home, go shopping, and out to lunch with her girlfriends. A special thank you to Dr. Mokfi, he was not only her caring physician, but a person she truly called a friend. Also a thanks to Hospice and her next door neighbor Pat who aided the family as she transitioned from this life to her life with her heavenly Father. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday October 21, 2015 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Thursday October 22, 2015, at Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, 2404 Lincolnway Way West, South Bend, IN.
