Joan M. Berty, 89, of Cecil, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 17, 2022, in TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg. She was born February 25, 1933, in Ambridge, a daughter of the late John and Anna C. Seman Vidmar.
Joan lived most of her life in Cecil, where she was a 1951 graduate of Cecil High School and a member of St. Mary's Church, Corpus Christy Parish.
She had been employed by Mellon Bank, Feno's Market and operated a home printing business for many years.
Joan was a member of the Cecil American Legion Auxiliary, Montour Trails Friends, the SNPJ Lodge and worked with her husband with Boy Scouts, Parks and Recreation, the Montour Trails and the Cecil Fall Festival. She enjoyed cooking, baking and Pittsburgh sports, but what brought her the most pleasure was spending time with her family and friends.
On June 4, 1951, she married Donald Berty, who passed away November 3, 1998.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved children, D. Gregory (Diane) Berty of Clarksville, Tenn., Dennis (Patti) Berty of Cecil, and Kimberly (Rick) DeGennaro of North Strabane Township; five grandchildren, Jason (Christie) Berty, Timothy (Blair) Berty, Melissa (Matthew) Mabon, Gina (Andy) Schry and Cory (Jessica) DeGennaro; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew, Mia, Daniel, Kegan, Haiden, Riley, Avery and Remi; her brother, John "Sonny" (Rose) Vidmar of Canonsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
At Mrs. Berty's request, private family visitation and services were held in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, with interment in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. A celebration of Joan's life will be held at a later date for friends and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Cecil Township Parks and Recreation and the Montour Trail Council.
