Joan Black

Meredith Joan Black, 82 of Herrick, Illinois died Friday, January 30, 2026 at 1:14 AM at Haven of St. Elmo in St. Elmo, Illinois. Cremation Rites have been accorded and Services will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Memorials in honor of Joan may be made to Herrick Food Pantry.

Joan was born March 31, 1943 at home in Fayette County, Illinois the daughter of Max and Dorothy (maiden name: Burrus) Cook. She grew up in Herrick attending Herrick Elementary and Herrick High Schools, graduating with the Class of 1961. Joan Cook married Larry Lee Black on July 23, 1961 in the Christian Church in Effingham, Illinois. Previously, she had been employed with Mallory Timers, Fedders, and the Shelby County Courthouse before she retired.

Joan is survived by her Husband: Larry Black; Son: Barry Black (Amy); Grandson: Brady Black (Kelli); Granddaughter: Harley Black, and Great-Grandchildren: Ada, Everett, and Gwendolyn Black, all of Herrick; Brother: Gerald Cook (Sheila) of Windsor, Illinois, and several Nieces and Nephews as well as Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews. She is preceded in death by her Parents and Brother: Darrell Cook.
