Joan T. Catizone

Joan T. Catizone, 90, Ashland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13th at Alpine Valley Healthcare Center, Lebanon surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Ashland, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Coyne) Haas. She worked as a chef for Fountain Springs Country Club and Indian Hills before retiring.

Joan was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Ashland. She was a member of the Citizens Fire Company No. 1 in Gordon, the Ashland VFW 7654, the American Legion Post 434, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Social Club. She was once described as "Yuengling's biggest fan" by Dick Yuengling himself. Joan enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, a good card game, and she was an avid animal lover. She told endless stories about all of her fun-filled adventures with her friends and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Panteleona John Catizone; her son, Anthony Catizone; a sister, Anne Felker; a grandson, Thomas Balsavage Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Patti Ann Catizone.

Joan is survived by her three daughters: Terese Catizone, Puerto Rico; Concetta Connell and her husband Chris, Palmyra; Kathryn Balsavage and her husband Tom, Girardville; a sister, Dorothy Haas, Puerto Rico; her six grandchildren: Conchetta Marucci and her husband Joe; William Catizone and his wife Kate; Whitney Peters and her husband Wesley; Shaina Habrack and her husband Chris; Christopher Connell Jr. and Kaitlyn Connell; her loving great-grandchildren: Joseph, Gary, Henry, Jack, Wrenly, Hayden and Walker; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday August 19th at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland with Fr. Guency Isaac, pastor, as the celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing at the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, 403 W. Main St., Girardville on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at a later date.
