Joan Cheek, 91, of McAlester, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at her home.

Joan was born on February 5, 1934 in Stringtown, Oklahoma to John Frank and Hartie Elizabeth (Neeley) Cheek. She was a hairdresser and spent many years working at the Aldridge Beauty Shop. She enjoyed visiting with people and hanging out at the beauty shop. Joan enjoyed giving small gifts to those she loved and taking care of animals. Most of all she loved her family. She was so proud of her loved ones and enjoyed displaying pictures of all of them all over her house. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include her niece, Christi Walker & husband, Scott Walker of McAlester; great-nephews, James Jeffrey, Joshua Jeffrey, Landon Walker, and Jonathan Jeffrey and wife Tiffany; great-niece, Micayla Walker; and numerous other great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, June Allen, Laura Jeffrey and Jane Cheek; nephews, Scott Jeffrey and John Jeffrey.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Central Christian Church, 920 E. Central in McAlester with Scott Walker officiating.
