My mom, Shirley Lewis, worked with Joan at the CP Health Center in the 70s-80s. My twin Jimmy and I would play hide-n-seek in the HC and roam campus. Whenever we saw Mrs. Cirone she always had a smile and was so very kind! I eventually graduated from CP and I always am thankful for kindness to us as children.

I´m so sorry to hear of your Mom´s loss Mike, Nick. Joe & Jean.i got to meet Aunt Joan and spend much time with her in Peru. It was like meeting a California version of my Dad. She had that Lawler spirit! She was smart, kind, witty & sharp. We had a lot of laughs as she haggled like a NYer on the streets. She said `you can take a girl out of in her!´ She was such a great lady & I enjoyed her vibrancy so much. She boasted about all of you & each of her grandchildren. There´s nothing like a Mother´s love. She will guide & watch over you from above-look for the signs. All my love & prayers.

Your mom was an occasional customer at Forden´s where I was employed. She was always so pleasant with our staff. My sympathies on her passing.

Joan's work at Cal Poly was stellar. She was not only the Director of Nursing, but was a tremendous after-hours resource for the residence halls, administration, and Campus Police. She was dedicated to providing great care for the students and great leadership for the staff.
