Joan Coduto Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hallowell & James Funeral Home - Countryside on Feb. 17, 2025.
"So long for now, till next time, 10-4. We miss you and love you always."
Joan L. Coduto, age 93 years, of Countryside, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael Coduto, loving mother of Rita Coduto, Gale Shummon and Annette (Fred) Damron and cherished grandma to Steven Shummon, Jennifer (Eric) Firlit, Baby Glenn Shummon, Brian (Susan) Pear, Krystal (Paul) Retzke, Jamie (Jay) Jaskiewicz, Keri (Jake) Schramm, Jessica Biniak, Jennifer (Eric) Stieb and Joseph (Anny) Biniak. Proud great grandma to Tyler Firlit, Abigail Retzke, Olivia Retzke, Skylar Firlit, Teddy Pear, Evan Jaskiewicz, Mya Stieb, Walter Pear, Noah Schramm, Michael Stieb, Emma Jaskiewicz and Henry Pear.
Joan had a zest for life like no other. She embraced her role as First Lady of Countryside, fulfilled her dream of travel in her van with her mom, kept active with bowling in various leagues, was quite the seamstress and spent quality time with her family. Always the life of the party, she would be the first one on the dance floor. She was a big fan of Dancing with the Stars, Survivor, Walker, Texas Ranger and Tiger Woods. There was never a dull moment with Joanie around. Her love, colorful spirit and devotion to her family will forever be in our hearts.
She was a beacon of strength and resilience. Throughout her life, she faced numerous challenges, yet she always emerged stronger, guided by her unwavering mantra: "We are Survivors." This powerful belief not only helped her navigate difficult times but also became a source of inspiration and strength for her children. She instilled in her daughters the same resilience and determination, teaching them to face life's adversities with courage and grace.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9pm on Friday, February 21, at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th Street, Countryside. Private family interment will be held on Saturday, February 22, at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice. Funeral Home Phone: 708-352-6500

Dear Gale & family, I am so very sorry to hear about your mom. I remember her well as a child and then reconnecting with her when your children came through Gurrie. Your mom was a great woman who fiercely love her children & grandchildren. I will always remember her and that big van she used to drive. I know how hard it is to lose your mom. A friend shared this with me when my mom passed 11 years ago. Her last breath here was her first breath in heaven. Much love to you all.
