Joan “JoAnn” Charlotte Colosimo, 91, of Greensburg, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 (her 71st wedding anniversary), surrounded by family at St. Anne Home. She was born May 5, 1934, in Greensburg, to the late John and Mary (Reidmiller) Frye. Joan worked as a Bell Telephone operator before becoming a full-time homemaker for her husband and five children. Later in life, she worked in the Greensburg Central Catholic High School cafeteria among other food service-related jobs. Joan will be best remembered for her devotion to her loved ones, including caring for friends and family in need, her mischievous sense of humor, hearty laugh, and irrepressible spirit. Her grandchildren will fondly remember her tongue-in-cheek catchphrases, for example, when they made an unreasonable request to do something (“Let’s not, and say we did”) or complained about a minor bump (“Pretend it doesn’t hurt”). Her comfort food recipes will be cherished by family for all occasions.
Joan maintained a lifelong love of sports. In high school, she was active on the swim, dive, and water ballet teams, and parlayed her talents into stints as a lifeguard at the YMCA and Mountain View Inn pools. She also enjoyed roller skating and bowling. Joan passed along her love of athletics to her children, spending countless hours chauffeuring them to and from football, basketball, track, and wrestling practices, and being their biggest fan. In her later years, you could always find her in front of the TV watching her favorite teams and offering her unfiltered commentary on their performances.
In addition to her loving husband, Lewis, who died in 2024 (and to whom she was affectionately known as “Josie Babe”), she was preceded in death by her youngest son, Steve Colosimo, and two sisters, Mary “Murkey” Frye and Shirley Rappa. She is survived by four children, John Colosimo (Mary) of Greensburg, Perry Colosimo (Mary McLaughlin) of Wexford, Lisa Jones (Casey) of Kenner, LA, and Lewis D. Colosimo, Jr. (Susan) of Canonsburg; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Colosimo of McKees Rocks; nine grandchildren, Sarah Gang (Christian), Michael Colosimo (Ann), Katie Souder (Nicholas), Sean Colosimo, Joseph Colosimo (Nicki), Jonathan, Ben, Robbie, and Sophia Colosimo; two great-grandsons, Graham Colosimo and Theo Souder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Joan on Sunday, Aug. 31, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc., 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Greensburg.
