Joan M. Connolly, 88, of Scranton, sadly passed away peacefully Saturday at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center after an illness. Her beloved husband of 58 years, Daniel F. Connolly, preceded her in death in 2015.

Born in Scranton and a lifelong resident of South Side, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Romayne Cahalin McHugh. She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish at Nativity of Our Lord Church and a 1952 graduate of South Catholic High School.

She worked at Bell Telephone before starting her family. Joanie could always be found taking a walk in her neighborhood with a friendly "Hello" to all she met. She was full of personality, loved her family deeply, and delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Joan is survived by a son, Daniel T. Connolly; three daughters, Maureen Kaub (Joseph), Barbara Hopkins and Mary Ellen Thorpe (Lonnie); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack McHugh; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and James Connolly; and two sisters, Eileen Dillon and Patricia McHugh.

The family would like to thank the staff of Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center for the compassionate care they provided for her.

In accordance with her wishes, she has been cremated. A private blessing service and inurnment at Cathedral Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements, Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave.

In lieu of flowers, Joan would like you to donate to your favorite local charity or help a friend in need.
