Joan Dragoumanos

Joan (Mousoulis Gianias) Dragoumanos of Tyngsboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and is already sorely missed by so many who knew her. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter J. Dragoumanos with whom she shared 30 years of marriage until his passing in 1990.
Joan was born November 1, 1934, in Gythio, Greece, the largest coastal town in the region of Mani. Her parents were George and Helen (Alexakos) Mousoulis.
Joan's love of caring for people began at a young age, and she continued caring for people her whole life, especially her grandchildren. Joan experienced occupied Greece during World War II where she witnessed death, war and hunger along with the death of her father and sister Maria.
At the age of 12, Joan and her mother immigrated to the United States, where they became U.S. Citizens and settled in Dracut. Her mother remarried James Gianias and she was adopted and had two sisters, whom she loved very much.
Joan worked in the Lowell mills for many years. In 1960, she met her husband Peter and together they raised six children, teaching them the importance of family, education and hard work.
Joan was a person of great faith. She took great comfort in knowing that God will bring her home when He was ready.
Joan is survived by and will be deeply missed by her children, Georgia Dragoumanos, John and Elizabeth Dragoumanos, Elaine Gentile and Brian Surette, Bessie and Wayne Emond, Tina and Arthur Vroutsis, and Pam and Ed McNulty, along with her 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Priscilla, her husband Buzz and their son Jim and family, and her sister Connie, her husband Ronnie and their daughter Renee and family.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 10 am – 11 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., LOWELL. Her Funeral Service will be held in the church at 11 am following the visitation. Interment to follow in Westlawn Cemetery, LOWELL. Memorial donations may be made in Joan's name to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
