Mrs. Joan Hunter Dunbar, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, departed this earthly life on December 23, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on October 24, 1941, in Florence, South Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of Henry Hunter and Annie Hunter (née Eaddy). She was the devoted wife of the late Woodrow Dunbar, Sr.
Joan graduated from Carver High School in Lake City, SC, and went on to build a fulfilling career working with several banks in New York City. She enjoyed traveling to different cities and cherished spending time with her family, creating countless beautiful memories.
At an early age, Joan was baptized and became a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church. In her later years, she worshiped as a faithful member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Annie Hunter; her husband, Woodrow Dunbar, Sr.; her brothers, Henry Maxwell Hunter, Sr., and Eugene Hunter, Sr.; and her sister, Eunice Hunter.
Joan leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her brothers, Deacon Clearance (Mildred) Hunter of Florence, SC, and Reverend Walter (Dr. Bobby Shaw) Hunter of Olive Branch, MS; her sisters-in-law, Jeanette Hunter of Darlington, SC, and Louise Hunter of Atlanta, GA; her bonus children, Woodrow Dunbar, Jr., and Barry Dunbar; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Joan will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her kind spirit, love for family, and unwavering faith.
