BRUNSWICK- With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to Joan Edwards, a cherished member of the Brunswick community, who passed away peacefully on September 06, 2025, at the age of 89.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 25, 1935, to the late Charles and Frieda (Meditz) Young. Joan found her true home in Brunswick, where she became a familiar face to many. For years, she was a fixture at the Brunswick Visitors Center, offering a warm welcome and a wealth of local knowledge to countless visitors. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching and an avid fan of the Maine State Music Theater. She loved her backyard birds and was an avid kayaker.

Her passion for her community was matched only by her deep love for animals. Joan was a tireless advocate for greyhound rescue, dedicating her time and energy to helping these gentle dogs find loving homes.

Joan's legacy lives on through her family, whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her two sons, Scott Edwards and Gregg Edwards, daughter-in-law, Olivia Edwards; her daughter Kimberly Westrich, son-in-law, Joseph Westrich; and her two granddaughters, Sierra Marie Edwards and Madison Joan Westrich, who brought immense joy to her life; and predeceased by her son Todd Edwards.

A private family service will be held to honor Joan's memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Maine Greyhound Placement Service, continuing the work that was so close to her heart. (https://www.greyhoundplacement.com/)

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Stetson's Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, Maine.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Stetson's Funeral Home website, www.stetsonsfuneralhome.com
