Joan Guse Obituary

Joan C. Guse, 71, Franklin passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025. Born on April 8, 1954, Joan lived a life full of laughter, creativity, and a little bit of mischief – especially if that mischief involved a slot machine or the perfect sale.

Joan took pride in her role as a Licensed Practical Nurse, where she excelled in helping patients heal. She applied that same care and precision as an insurance agent, safeguarding not just things, but the peace of mind of countless individuals.

On a hot summer day in 1987, Joan took a gamble on love and hit the jackpot with James in Vegas at the Chapel of Bells. Together they crafted a life that was one part adventure, two parts laughter, and completely filled with love. Though James took his leave before the final curtain call in 2019, their love story remains a classic.

Joan’s gardening skills were legendary, with Greenfield and Florida both bestowing upon her the coveted 'Yard of the Month' title. Her fingers could dance across fabrics, turning them into clothes, curtains, and quilts that told stories of their own. And let's not forget her card-playing finesse – she could win cribbage while planning her next shopping expedition.

Travel was another of Joan's passions, from the bright lights of Vegas where she mastered the one-armed bandits, to the historic streets of Italy, which she explored with her daughter Gina. Each trip was a chapter in her book of life, filled with laughter and discovery.

Joan's legacy is carried on by her adoring daughter Gina and her husband Derek, her grandsons Miles and Jack who inherited her mischievous twinkle, and her siblings Sandy, Allan, and Shirley with her husband Ron. A host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Preceded by her beloved husband James, and her parents Steve and Marian.

In accordance with Joan’s wishes no services will be held. Should friends to choose please consider a donation in Joan’s name to Boerner Botanical Gardens or Mitchell Park Domes Horticulture Conservatory.
