Joan Haas Obituary

October 31, 1928 - November 11, 2025 The children of Joan Frances Klaus Haas announce her passing Tuesday, November 11, 2025. She was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio by her grandmother, Sarah McLaughlin, and her mother, Frances Wilson. She met her next-door neighbor, Matthew Haas (1926-2016), upon his return from the U.S. Navy following World War II and were married February 1, 1947. Together, she and Matthew raised six children. The family moved to Pittsburgh in 1965 and during that span of time built two beautiful homes together with the help of two of their children. Her children, Janalyn Reardon (Michael), Jamison Haas, Mardee Hughes (Michael), Carolyn Haas (James Leeper), Gregory Haas (Brenda), and Susan Pasqualino (Damiano), were the center of her life and her whole purpose. She was most happy raising her six children and being a stay-at-home mom. She provided a warm and loving environment. She always made sure that there were home-cooked meals where the family gathered around the table every night. These family gatherings grew as she acquired nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her artistic talent was expressed in so many ways. She was self taught and put oil on canvas to create portraits of her children and still life paintings and on a day-to-day basis, her talent was expressed in her sewing of beautiful clothes for all of her children, which later included wedding gowns and proms dresses and Halloween costumes. Her sewing didn't stop there, as she made draperies for her home and upholstered many a couch and chair. She also spun wool to make knitted sweaters for the family. She was an avid reader with informed opinions, having extensive knowledge in many areas. Her love of family extended to the family pets and all living creatures. She had a particular fondness for wild birds, and enjoyed identifying and learning all about them. Whenever she was at her Florida home, she cared for her beloved feral cats. She was a wise woman who imparted so much love, skill and knowledge and will be carried in all of our hearts forever. Family and friends are welcome from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the blessing service at 12 noon Saturday, November 15, in Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Joan's name, to the Greene County Humane Society, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
