Dear Sr. Barbra, I was so sorry to read of the passing of your sister Joan. I had the pleasure of meeting and being in her company a few times at Melrose Community. I was always inspired by your shared compassion for others and the profound energy you both devoted in the pursuit of justice especially for the downtrodden. My prayers are with you, and the family during this time of loss.

I just learned of Joan's passing, and I am so sad. I have many memories of Joan and choosing one tonight is difficult. But one that comes to mind is Larry and I went to Joan and Ray's house in our neighborhood (beautiful Browncroft) the day Larry was diagnosed with cancer. We were supposed to go to a dinner, but she convinced us to come to their house for a hug. We did and her encouragement made us feel instantly better. We shared many happy times together with friendstrips to Boca Grande, sharing luscious and sometimes boisterous (the conversations) dinners and always rekindling our hopes and dreams for a better world. Joan was kind. She always gave to those who needed her guidance the most.

The Mahoney's are thinking of you all and missing Joan. She is to us an amazing woman and role model as wife, mother and community activist - dedicated to lifting her family, friends and community in bettering the lives of others. Thanks to Joan, we were able to contribute in ways that would not have been possible without her leadership and passion. We hold her memory and many accomplishments close, inspired to do better and live our lives by her example. We send our love to Ray, her lovely daughters and extended family.
