Mrs. Joan Lady Jo Herrick

Joan Herrick - Oxnard Joan "Lady Jo" Herrick, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 30th, 2011 in Ventura, CA. Surrounded by her family, she went peacefully at the wonderful age of 90. Born on March 5th, 1921 as Johanna Dorothy Zeronas, Joan was raised in Ferrell, PA. Supported by her mother and father, Benedict and Elizabeth Zeronas, Joan grew up alongside her six siblings (Eleanor Miller is still living, but Tony, Albert, Anne, Julie, and Antoinette have since passed on). During WWII Joan worked in a defense plant and she was a "Rosie the Riveter". It was in Pennsylvania that Joan met her sweetheart, serviceman Stanley Herrick (d. 1986). Stanley moved to California in 1953 when he took a job at the Oxnard Airforce Base. Joan came out in Dec.1953 and they were married on Jan.5th,1954. A proud mother and caregiver, Joan became known fondly in the community as "Lady Jo." She dedicated over 36 years of her life to childcare, supporting and loving those that she cared for as if they were her own children. Joan had a heart of gold; keeping an open door policy for anyone who wanted to come in, chat, and share some of her famous cookies. More often than not, Joan put the needs of others before her own; especially those of her family. She shinned as a parent to children Jeffery Herrick (d.1955), Diane Herrick (d. 2001), Linda Yuncker (husband, Chuck), and Gerri Herrick-Murray (husband, Robert), and as "Grammy" to grandchildren Brian, Lauren, and Shannon Yuncker and granddogs Brownie, Buddy ,Buster and Zoey. Joan was a blessing to the lives of so many people. We will miss her kindness, compassion, generous spirit, and great sense of humor. Visitation for Joan will be held Thursday, September 8th (4:00p.m.to 8:00p.m) at Santa Clara Mortuary, 2370 North H Street, Oxnard 93036 Evening Rosary/Memorial will be held onThursday, September 8th (6:30 p.m to 8:00 pm). at Santa Clara Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 9th at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Clara Church, 323 South "E" Street, Oxnard. Burial will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery. All that knew Joan are welcome to come and celebrate her life. Because of Joan's love for children we would appreciate, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
