Joan B. Kite passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 in Humble, Texas. She was born on June 17, 1929 in Petersburg, Virginia to William Broyer and Otis Irene Holt Broyer. Joan graduated from McKinley High School in Washington, D.C. and began her career as a Secretary in the U.S. Customs Bureau. She was a phenomenal typist and soon worked her way up to Secretary to the Director of the Customs Bureau, before resigning to begin her new career as a dedicated mother. She is survived by two sons, Dale (Stephanie) and Glenn (Susan); grandchildren, Steve (Melissa) Kite, David (Jennifer) Kite, Gregg (Libby) Kite and Jenny Kite and her beloved great-grandchildren, Alana, Deakon, Sara, Harrison, Korben, Nadia, Caleb, Amelia, Erin and Coleson.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Carroll J. Kite; brother, Calvin Broyer; and sister-in-law; Daisy Broyer.
Joan grew up with a love of dancing and she and her brother were excellent at jitterbug. She loved music and enjoyed attending community concerts and dinners with her friends. She volunteered as a dispatcher at the Atascocita Fire Department for several years. She and Carroll were long-time members of Atascocita Methodist Church, where she served on the Pastoral Care Committee. Her family will remember her as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She instilled a love of family and led by example in her role as a wife and mom.
The graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 24, 2023 in Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
