Joan Mary Klingert
October 2, 1929 - October 5, 2025
With hearts full of love and cherished memories, we celebrate the beautiful life of Joan Mary Klingert, who passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, just three days after her 96th birthday.
Born in the vibrant Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan, Joan was the eldest of five devoted Flood siblings, a role she carried with grace throughout her long and remarkable life. It was on those very streets where a teenage Joan met the love of her life, Jack. Their romance blossomed over five years of courtship, leading to a blessed 71-year marriage that began in 1952 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
Joan stood faithfully by Jack's side through every chapter of their life together, from his Minor League Baseball days to his service in the U.S. Army, and throughout his distinguished career with the NYPD, where he rose to the rank of Captain. Together, they built a loving home, first in Manhattan, then in the Bronx and finally settled in Tappan in 1971, where they raised their five children with devotion and joy.
A graduate of Washington Irving High School, Joan brought her sharp mind and strong work ethic to every endeavor, from her early days in Oxford's accounts receivable department to her later career as a production planner at Klopman Mills. But it was in her role as the heart of her family where Joan truly shined.
Joan's warmth and legendary hospitality made everyone feel like family. Her quick wit could light up any room, and her laughter was infectious. Year after year, she brought the family together at the 4th of July picnic, proudly leading everyone in singing "God Bless America", a tradition that will echo in our hearts forever.
Joan's home was a haven of warmth and togetherness, where she carried on the beautiful tradition of hospitality passed down from her mother. Her gatherings overflowed with love, and often with more family and friends than there were seats! No one complained about sitting on the floor. The aroma of her famous homemade meatballs simmering on the stove was the scent of pure comfort, accompanied by a spread of delicious homemade dishes that nourished both body and soul. Her grandchildren's eyes would light up the moment they arrived, knowing that Joan's family room table held a special treasure, a candy bowl brimming with treats, always kept full just for them. These precious moments, filled with laughter, good food, and unconditional love, are the memories her family will hold close to their hearts forever.
Above all, Joan treasured being a grandmother. She delighted in each of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and she beamed with joy at the recent news of three more great-grandchildren joining the family this fall/winter.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack, her parents, Peter and Genevieve Flood; her cherished daughter, Doreen Weatherby; and her dear grandson, John Edward.
Her legacy of love lives on through her devoted children: Elaine, Barbara, Jack and Teri, and Kevin; her sister-in-law Anna; her adored grandchildren Michael, Tim, Brett, Danielle, Colleen Joan, Craig, Ryan, and Kortney; and her great-grandchildren Lexi, Xander, Rose Genievieve, and the two newest blessings soon to arrive.
Joan's life was a testament to love, family, and the joy found in bringing people together. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In honoring Joan's memory and the faith that guided her throughout her life, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in her memory.
