Joan Kohler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc. - Dallastown on Jan. 6, 2026.
Joan R. Kohler, 83, of Red Lion, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026. She was born on January 7, 1942, in York, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late F. Sheldon and Edna (Krick) Trout.

Joan was a faithful member of Chanceford Alliance Church in Felton. She was also co-owner of Robert H. Kohler Plumbing and Heating, where she worked for many years.

She enjoyed playing bingo and cards and especially loved watching Christian television programs. In her younger years, Joan found joy in fishing and working in her yard, hobbies that reflected her love of the outdoors and simple pleasures.

Joan is survived by her loving children: son, Randy Kohler and his wife Lori; daughter, Robin Harper and her husband William; and son, Rodger Kohler and his husband Stephen Brodsky. She was a proud grandmother to Ryan Harper, Michael Kohler, and Shonna Bankoske, and a cherished great-grandmother to Katelyn Harper, Kenna Harper, and Harper Bankoske. She is also survived by her sisters, Judy Mundis and Joyce Measley.

She was preceded in death by her brother, S. Larry Trout.

A funeral service to honor Joan's life will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main Street, Dallastown, PA 17313, with Pastor Jeremy McCombs officiating. A viewing will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. until the start of the service. Interment will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chanceford Alliance Church, 2142 Furnace Rd, Felton PA 17322.

Joan Kohler was a cherished friend of my mother during her time at Equine Meadows. Joan often called my mom her "buddy," and together they shared countless adventures around the Dallastown and Red Lion area. Their common interests-bingo, card games, and any small game of chance-brought them endless joy and laughter.
When my mother could no longer drive, Joan became her wheels, faithfully taking her to her beloved Dallastown Bingo. They rarely missed a night, and our family will forever be grateful for that simple but profound gesture. Joan, like my mom, valued independence, and the way they looked out for each other was truly special.
Joan was by my mother´s side on their way to Jerry´s-a tradition after poker-when my mom asked her to turn around because she wasn´t feeling well. Joan acted quickly to get help, and for that, we are deeply thankful. My mom left this world a winner at poker that day, and I like to imagine that on New Year´s Eve at the Equine Cove clubhouse, Joan won a bingo. I hope they are both together now, plucking the card players in heaven like a couple of pros.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Joan´s family during this difficult time. Her kindness and friendship will never be forgotten. Unfortunately, I will be in Denver, CO on business travel but knows she will have a beautiful sendoff.
