Joan Marie (Cyr) Lamontagne, 90, cherished matriarch and long time member of the
Biddeford community, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at the Gosnell
Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.
Born on October 30, 1935, in
St. David, Maine, to Edgar and Cecile (Dumond) Cyr, Joan
was the eldest of eight children. As a teenager, she moved to Biddeford to work as a
nanny for relatives who had settled in the area-an experience that nurtured her lifelong
empathy and affection for children. When that chapter ended, she began working at the
Puritan soda fountain, where she met the love of her life, Robert "Curly" Lamontagne.
After a whirlwind romance, they married on September 18, 1954.
Together for sixty-two years, Joan and Curly raised three vibrant sons and created a home filled with love, laughter, and frequent gatherings of family and friends. Once her boys were in school,
Joan returned to the workforce at Pepperell Blanket Factory, where she spent thirty-three
dedicated years in the finishing department. After retiring from Pepperell, she continued
serving her community in the lunchrooms of Biddeford's middle and elementary schools
for 15 more years.
Joan lived life with remarkable energy and spirit. She and Curly were active members of
the 50 Plus Club, eagerly participating in outings, clam bakes, and lobster dinners. They
were seasonal residents of the Little Ossipee Lake Campground where they enjoyed many joy-filled years spent with fellow RVers; taking a special joy in their peaceful boat rides around the lake.
A competitive bowler, Joan helped her team earn numerous championships. She was a
devoted Bingo player at the Biddeford Community Senior Center and a tireless volunteer-serving snacks at sporting events, baking for Seeds of Hope, and assisting at the annual La
Kermesse Franco American Festival, where her pork pies earned multiple First Place
awards. As a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, she volunteered with the
women's auxiliary. She also loved dancing the Eagles Club functions, where her joy for music
was always on full display. Joan will be remembered for her generosity and dedication to her family and her enthusiasm for life. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her best.
Joan is survived by her sons Charles of Biddeford; Richard (Betsy) of Effingham, NH; and
Donald (Carol) of North Waterboro; her grandsons Chris Perry (Katie) of Waterboro,
Brandon Lamontagne (partner Donnie Sanborn) of Hollis, Erich Lamontagne of Port
Orchard, WA; and her great grandson Easton Perry of Waterboro. She is also survived
by her siblings Juliet Cyr of Brunswick, Emily Cyr and Marie Cyr of Madawaska, and Richard
(Francine) Cyr of St. David; numerous nieces and nephews around the country; and her beloved sister in law Dolly Lamontagne of Waterboro.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Robert "Curly"; her sisters Charlene
Cyr of St. David, Deselene (Daisy) Nolette of Lewiston, Claire Pelletier of Bangor; and her niece Alivia Welch of Biddeford.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford on Tuesday, January
20th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joan Marie Lamontagne to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough Maine 04074
