Joan MacDonald

Joan MacDonald, age 83, of Berkley, passed away on October 16, 2022.
More than anything else, Joan was devoted to her family, of which she was the heart and soul, and to her Catholic faith. Her life was centered around those who were closest to her. Whether it was attending her grandchildren's events, playing games, spending time together during the holidays---especially Christmas, or just enjoying a trip out to eat (particularly at National Coney Island), Joan's focus was never far from her family. She was naturally drawn to teaching and served in the Detroit, Warren, and Berkley school systems over the course of her career.
Joan also had a love for bible study, being with her friends, and travel - enjoying twenty-five sea cruises with Fred throughout the world (many of which included her children). And along with shopping, her family will not forget a certain weakness she had for chocolate. But above all else, Joan will be remembered for her extraordinary kindness towards others. She will be dearly missed.
Beloved wife of Fred. Loving mother of Jerry, Patricia (Mike) MacDonald-Potts, and Mike (Jill). Proud grandmother of Kailey, Eli, Noah, and Grace. Dear sister of Jerry (Diane) Fagelman and late Joseph. Also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 20 from 2 - 8 p.m. (6:30 p.m. Rosary and Sharing of Memories) at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI 48067. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m. (visitation 10:30 a.m.) at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church, 2600 Harvard Rd., Berkley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are appreciated.
