Joan Catherine Malkin, born on May 17, 1943, in the Bronx, New York, to William and Mary Zilliox, passed away peacefully on July 6th, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family and friends. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Pat, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and travel. She was also preceded in death by her cherished sisters Barbara and Mary and Antoinette. Joan is survived by her loving children Lisa and Paul (Tammy), and her treasured grandsons Liam and Louie, who knew her affectionately as "Kiki." She also leaves behind her dear sisters Margaret Tracy and Louise Scully, and her brothers Anthony and John (Joanne) Zilliox. A woman of deep faith, Joan found great joy and strength in her church community. She especially loved attending Saturday Mass at St. Matthew Church in Norwalk with her sister Margaret and participating in various church activities that kept her closely connected to her spiritual family. Joan worked for many years in the deli department at ShopRite in Norwalk, where she was not only a dedicated employee but also a loyal and familiar face to many customers. Her kindness, warmth, and welcoming nature made her beloved by coworkers and patrons alike. Friendship was one of Joan's greatest treasures. She maintained deep and enduring relationships with her neighborhood friends Anne Marie and Marlene, and with longtime friends Carol and Richie Riccardi, whom she and Pat visited often in Florida. Her ability to forge and keep meaningful connections was a true testament to her generous spirit. In her younger years, Joan and Pat enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family over shared meals and joyful gatherings. In later years, Joan delighted in the simple pleasures of life-QVC shopping, lunch dates with her girlfriends, visits to dollar stores, and always having a thoughtful gift ready for someone she cared about. Joan's greatest joy came from caring for others, especially her grandsons. Her love was constant, and her kitchen was always full of warmth, laughter, and something delicious cooking. She was the heart of her family-a steady, loving presence whose legacy will live on in the lives of all who knew her. A Mass to celebrate Joan's life will be held on Thursday, July 10th at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew Church in Norwalk, Connecticut. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk, Connecticut. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
