Joan Marie Mattis, age 94, passed away on October 10th, 2025, at the Crawford Continuing Care Center in Grayling, Michigan.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on July 7th, 1931, she was the daughter of Harry and Angelina (Goyer) Willette.

After graduating from Melvindale High School in 1949, she was married to Lawrence Mattis on October 7th, 1950, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Dearborn Heights, Michigan. They were married for 67 years before Larry's passing in January 2018.

Joan was a florist for several years, then worked for the USPS in Romulus, Michigan before moving to Grayling.

In 1970, Larry and Joan purchased Kellogg's Corner on East 72 which they owned and operated for 37 years as Larry & Joan's Place.

She is survived by her sisters Janet (Donald) Rechlin, of Waters, Michigan; Virginia Mierzejewski of Green Valley, Arizona; sister-in-law, Darlene Gray of Gillette, Wyoming; and many nephews and nieces of hers and Larry's families.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, her husband Larry, and brothers Gordon and Michael Willette and their spouses, Helen and Barbara Willette.

Funeral services will be on Friday, October 17th, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grayling, Michigan. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Grayling.

Memorial donations requested for St. Mary Catholic Church or Crawford County Commission on Aging.
