Joan Elizabeth Mudge

Joan Elizabeth Frederick Mudge, 95, of Wheeling, WV, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born October 23, 1930, in Wheeling, she was the daughter of the late Elmer "Bud" Frederick and Thelma Yost Frederick.

Joan was a lifelong resident of Wheeling. She was a retired teacher with Ohio County Schools and was actively involved in the Ohio Valley Auxiliary Leaf Twig and Green Acres WV C.E.O.S. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for more than 25 years and was a faithful member of Stone Presbyterian Church.

She loved to travel, garden, entertain, celebrate the holidays, and play cards with her friends and family. Friday nights at the Alpha with her "crew" were especially cherished. Joan remained deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loving them all "a bushel and a peck."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William "Bill" Mudge.

She is survived by her three sons, Brien (Ginny) Mudge of Wheeling, WV; Tim (Joyce) Mudge of Greenville, NC; and Jay (Kathy) Mudge of Wheeling, WV; five grandchildren, Erin (Mark) Ahlstrom, Ryan (Kelsey McKeel) Mudge, Zachary (Jessica) Mudge, Jamie Mudge, and Katelyn Mudge; and six great-grandchildren, Addison, Kendall, Brynn, Coren, Jaydn, and Kinsley.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Stone Presbyterian Church, 25 East Cove Avenue, Wheeling, WV, with Rev. Dennis Biearman officiating. Luncheon to follow.
