Joan Ann "Joanie" Newberry, 78, of Floresville, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Born on April 22, 1947, in Rayne, Louisiana, Joanie lived a life grounded in faith and service. She was the daughter of Clyde William Williams and Martha Estelle Williams. A 1965 graduate of Weslaco High School, Joanie later earned a Business and Accounting Certification from Durham Business College in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her education supported a life of dedication to her family and community. Joanie shared 51 years of marriage with John Harvey Newberry Sr., raising three sons: Steven Terry Scott, John Harvey Newberry Jr., and William Fredrick Newberry. She was a devoted grandmother to Katia Scott, Ethan Newberry, and Ethni Newberry, and a great-grandmother to Rumani Newberry. Her love extended to her siblings-Carolyn Williams Riley, Richard Osborn Williams, Ginger Williams Dieter, and Clyde William "Billy" Williams-as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A faithful servant of Christ, Joanie was an active member of Calvary Cowboy Fellowship Church in Stockdale, Texas. She lived her beliefs daily through prayer and acts of kindness-often preparing home-cooked meals or her signature dessert pies for church gatherings and families in need. Joanie found joy in cooking for loved ones, gardening with care, singing hymns that lifted hearts, sewing with skillful hands, and spending cherished time with family. Her generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor David Gillian of Calvary Cowboy Fellowship. Burial will follow at Mission Burial Park South. May her memory be a blessing to all whose lives she touched.
